Hundreds of faces an evening, not one of them remembered. The gesture became so quick it stopped meaning anything — and you close the app having felt nothing at all.

Profiles are unlimited, so none of them counts. You skim instead of reading.

The decision takes a second, based on an image. What someone thinks or loves never enters into it.

A "hi" about nothing, then silence. Nothing in the profile gave you anything to say.

Why Étoffe exists
We founded Étoffe after closing, like so many people, yet another dating app without feeling a thing. Too many profiles, not enough real people. We wanted the opposite: less swiping, more substance. That is why we are taking the time to get it right before opening the doors.

What people ask us.

When does Étoffe open?

Some time in 2026. We will not give a more precise date until we are sure of it — announcing a day and then pushing it back would be the first promise we broke.

Why only five conversations at a time?

Because past that, you stop really answering anyone. Browsing profiles is free; what is capped is the number of exchanges open at once, for everyone, subscribers included. End one and a place opens up.

Is Étoffe free?

Yes. Creating a profile, discovering people, sending likes and talking to your matches is free. Optional subscriptions will lift some limits, but never make receiving a reply conditional.

How do you verify profiles?

Through identity verification when the account is created, and moderation of every photo before it goes live. That is what lets us say there are no fake profiles: we could not create one without lying to our own system.

What do you do with my data?

It is hosted in Europe and is neither sold nor shared. You can delete your account and the data attached to it from inside the app, without having to write to anyone.

What does joining the waiting list commit me to?

Nothing. You receive a single message, on the day we open. Unsubscribing takes one click, and your address is used for nothing else.

Which countries does Étoffe work in?

Étoffe will open city by city, starting where the waiting list is longest — a dating app is only worth anything where there are people. Sign up: that is what decides the order.
